Today, PEP launched a web page featuring yoga videos created by PEP Phoenix paraprofessional, Ms. Barbarino. Students are currently unable to attend their Day Treatment Centers as a result of Gov. DeWine’s stay-at-home order and don’t have access to some of the opportunities that were formerly a part of their school day.
“I wanted to provide an opportunity for students to move their bodies, even though they are at home. Yoga is an ideal way to do that,” Ms. Barbarino said. “It doesn’t require a lot of equipment or space and can easily be done just about anywhere.”
In addition to its physical benefits, yoga can help with emotional regulation.
“We’re all stressed out right now. Our routines are different, we aren’t getting the social supports we’re used to, and there is a lot of uncertainty,” explained Ms. Barbarino. “These yoga videos will help us become mindful and ease that stress – plus I like that for my PEP Phoenix students, I will be a familiar face. I think that will be reassuring.”
Ms. Barbarino plans to publish new videos each week during the stay-at-home period. The videos will be posted by date in each grade level of the “extra credit” sections of PEP’s Online School web page.
